George Washington Upends Women's Lacrosse, 16-8

WASHINGTON, D.C. – George Washington defeated Mount St. Mary's 16-8 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Monday.

Erin Seipp (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Preparatory) paced the Mount (1-7) with two goals and an assist. Aubrey Rubino (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) notched her first two collegiate goals and Kaitlyn Larrimore (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) also found the twine twice in the loss.

Sarah Phillips led the Colonials (6-2) with two goals and three assists. Rachel Mia added a hat trick while Addi Bolin, Lindsey Diantonio and Megan Seidman each registered two goals and an assist in the winning effort.

George Washington scored six unanswered goals in the first half to take the lead and never looked back to earn its eighth win in the last nine meetings against Mount St. Mary's.

After Lindsay Diaz (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) scored unassisted at 4:47 to give the Mount a 2-1 lead, the Colonials scored the next six goals to take a 7-2 lead. Phillips had a hand in the first three tallies in the run after finding the twine at 5:14, assisting Diantonio at 7:05 and then found the back of the net at 11:49. Bolin registered back-to-back markers at 13:39 and 18:47 before Seidman capped the spurt with an unassisted tally at 19:40 to give George Washington a 7-2 margin.

Seipp ended the run and concluded the scoring in the first half with an unassisted marker at 24:38 to trim the margin to 7-3 at halftime.

The Colonials started the second half with five-straight scores. Mia had two tallies in the run while Allie Rash, Jordy Bathras and Casey Disharoon also scored in the first nine minutes of the final frame to give George Washington a 12-3 lead.

Larrimore momentarily halted the Colonials offensive outburst unassisted at 42:27, but Lacey (42:58), Mia (43:18) and Diantonio (47:34) scored three-straight goals to increase its lead to 14-4.

Mount St. Mary's then scored four of the final five goals to make the final score, 16-8. Rubino started the run with her first collegiate goal at 52:28 on an 8-meter opportunity. Seipp set up Larrimore at 54:18 before Seipp found the twine unassisted at 56:03. After Casey Dell'Isola converted a free-position attempt at 56:51, Rubino answered with her second 8-meter goal of day with six seconds left.

The Mount jumped out to a 1-0 and a 2-1 lead in the contest. Esther Rufolo (Woodstock, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy) got the scoring started with a free-position goal at 2:36. Nicole Lacey tied the game off a Phillips' assist at 4:01 before Diaz handed the Mountaineers a 2-1 edge unassisted at 4:47. George Washington then scored the next six goals to take the lead it would not relinquish.

Brigid McTavish (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) made three saves in 37:11 of action while Sarah Jane Leder (Manalapan, N.J./Colts Neck) turned away four shots. Jess Hicks made four stops for the Colonials.

Meaghan Conlon (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) had four draw controls, and a ground ball while Rufolo posted three draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Gabe Little (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) had a team-high three ground balls, and Seipp added two ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover to go along with her career-high two goals.

Mount St. Mary's opens up Northeast Conference play at home against Robert Morris on Friday. Match time is 4 p.m.
