Emmitsburg, Md. (March 17, 2012)-- The women's tennis team lost to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon, 4-3 before bouncing back in the nightcap against the Red Flash, beating them 6-1.
The Mount started off the match against the Colonials with a pair of doubles wins, to take an early 1-0 lead. Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy defeated Teixiera and Limon, 8-5, and Liz Rossi and Jenny Smith defeated Chen and Passero at No. 3 by the same score.
Singles saw the Mountaineers only win two matches, at the No. 2 and No. 6 spot. Kelly Conroy won at No. 2 over Chen by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Senior Lauren Clark followed up with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Rudneva at the six spot.
The Mount quickly bounced back in the night session against St. Francis Pa. The women again won the doubles point, behind a pair of impressive wins. Renee Deane and Carly Landini defeated Patel and Valls, 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. The duo of Rossi and Clark downed Sarver and Husband, by a score of 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
The Mount would win five of the six singles matches to pull away for good. The win by Jenny Smith at the No. 6 spot was the clinching match. Smith's improved play has led her to two straight singles wins. Smith defeated Laura Husband, 6-0, 6-2. Samantha Pinchoff defeated Sarver, 6-1, 6-3 and Conroy defeated Valls 6-1, 6-2 at the one and two spot respectively. Landini also won at the No. 4 spot, downing Lucy Jasso in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6). Rossi won at the No. 5 spot over Alex Sachs, 0-6, 6-3, 10-3.
The women return to action on Tuesday when they host Bucknell. First serve against the Bison is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
