EMMITSBURG, Md. – Virginia Tech defeated Mount St. Mary's 12-5 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Kaitlyn Larrimore (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) paced the Mount (1-6) with a hat trick while Lindsay Diaz (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Esther Rufolo (Woodstock, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy) each found the twine. Brigid McTavish (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) made 14 saves in the loss.

Megan Will and Morgan Widlake fueled the Hokies (5-4) with three goals while Jessica Nonn registered a goal and two assists and Meg Bartley handed out three assists. Libby Rosebro registered two markers in the winning effort.

Virginia Tech used a 7-0 run to close the first half and to start the second half to take the lead and held off a Mount St. Mary's comeback attempt to earn its fourth win in the series.

With the game tied at 1, Nonn gave the Hokies the lead for good and started a string of seven unanswered goals off a feeder from Bartley at 10:53. Widlake then converted an 8-meter opportunity at 20:19 before Jack Boissoneault set up Rosebro at 22:11. Will ended the scoring in the first half with an unassisted tally at 24:50 to give Virginia Tech a 5-1 lead at halftime.

The Hokies came out of the break to score the first three markers of the second half. Nonn connected with Brooke Martin at 30:54 before Rosebro scored unassisted at 31:27 and Ryan Rotanz capped the spurt with a tally off a Bartley feeder at 32:12 for an 8-1 advantage.

Larrimore then put the Mount on her back to help trim the margin to 9-5 with 6:10 remaining. The redshirt sophomore found the back of the net of a Shelby Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Palotti) assist at 42:22. After Widlake answered for Virginia Tech unassisted 18 seconds later, Larrimore converted a free-position attempt at 46:33 and took a pass from Jen Semler (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) at 48:57. Diaz then scooped up a loose ball in front of the net and tickled the twine at 53:50 to trim the margin to 9-5.

Boissonneault answered seven seconds later and Will sealed the win with tallies at 56:44 and 57:12 for the 12-5 win.

Widlake got the scoring started on the afternoon with a free-position goal at 1:34 before Rufolo answered for the Mountaineers unassisted at 10:02, but the Hokies responded 51 seconds later to start a 7-0 run and went on for the win.

Diaz registered two ground balls and a draw control while Melissa Cox (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) had two ground balls and a caused turnover and Mary MacAdam (Palmyra, N.J./Holy Cross) also had two ground balls. McTavish paced the Mount with three ground balls.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Monday at George Washington to conclude non-conference play. Match time is 4 p.m.
