Fairfax, Va. (September 25, 2011)—Mike Salomon went 2-1 on the final day of the invitational, going 5-1 for the weekend. Salomon's only loss of the day came in the final doubles match, where he and his teammate Adam Salam lost a close one, 9-8 (7-4).
In singles action, a trio of Mount players won their matches. Junior Matthew Blake recorded his first singles win of the year, defeating Loyola's Kevin Zingler, 7-5, 6-1. Both Mike Salomon and Taylor Place needed three sets to get their wins. Salomon won 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 over George Mason's Chris Borden. Place knocked off Patrick Mulquin 6-4, 1-6, 10-2.
Sophomore Mike Zabetakis and Freshman Patrick McGinley had a strong day in doubles, winning both of their matches, defeating two sets of Loyola opponents. They defeated Ryan Fitzgerald and Keishi Goto 8-6 in the first match. They went on to defeat Eric Michaelis and Tom Hamm 8-5. Salomon and Salam got a win in the first round on Sunday. The pair defeated Kevin Zingler and Patrick Glaessner 8-3.
The Mount men return to action next Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, when they host the Mount Invitational.
