Fairfax, Va. (September 24, 2011)—Mike Salomon won both of his singles matches and teamed up with Adam Salam to win doubles on the first day of the George Mason Invitational.
In singles action, Mike Salomon won his two singles matches, both in straight sets over Harrisson Kunkel 6-3, 6-1 and Taylor Sargent 7-6, 7-5. Senior Jastin Mostowtt won his first round match over Eric Michaelis 6-4, 6-4 for his first singles win of the year. Both Mike Zabetakis and Taylor Place won in straight sets over a pair of Loyola competitors. Zabetakis beat Patrick Glaessner, 6-1, 6-0, while Place beat Ryan Fitzgerald 6-3, 6-3. Junior Paul Chae notched his first collegiate win on Saturday. Chae beat Tom Hamm of Loyola 6-4, 6-4 in his second round match.
Two doubles pairs notched victories on Saturday. The team of Mike Salomon and Adam Salam beat Keyan Sanai and Harrisson Kunkel 8-5. Matthew Blake and Taylor Place teamed up to beat the team from George Mason of Chris Borden and Taylor Sargent 9-8 (7-5).
The men return to action tomorrow, Sunday September 25 for the final day of the George Mason Invitational. Matches begin at 10 a.m. with two doubles rounds, and one singles round.
