Hunt Valley, Md. (September 23, 2011)—Senior Dylan Bernard finished in second place to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Towson Invitational held at Oregon Ridge Park on Friday. Freshman McKenzie Doyle's sixth-place finish helped the Mount women to a third-place finish at the meet.
Bernard finished the five-mile course in a time of 26:06.41 to lead the Mountaineers. Chris Swisko finished in 10th place with a mark of 26:38.86 as the Mount's second-fastest finisher. The rest of the Mount's top five included Tommy Gruschow (17th, 27:49.56), Jesse Albright (27:54,58, 18th) and Kevin Pitts (22nd, 28:08.93).
The Mount men finished in second place with 59 points behind first-place Navy (19). The rest of the top five teams included Seton Hall, UMES and Loyola.
Doyle finished the 5-kilometer course in a time 19:23.20 to finish as the Mount's top runner. Megan Kinsella was the Mount next-fastest runner, finishing 14th with a time of 19:56.46. The remainder of the top five for the Mountaineers were Colleen Smith (21st, 20:55.97), Kathryn Franke (26th, 21:03.53)and Stephanie Joson (21:55.94).
The Mount finished in third place at the meet behind Towson and Hampton.
