Emmitsburg, Md. (September 20, 2011)—Women's tennis picks up their first win of the year after defeating Shepherd 8-1 Tuesday afternoon. The Mount won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The team won five of the six singles matches to roll to an easy victory over the Rams.
The Mount swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Freshman Danielle Nguyen and Taylor D'Agostino won at No. 3 doubles to earn their first collegiate victories. The tandem displaced Shepherd's Christa Carr and Rachel Harrison 8-2. The duo of Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy continue their dominance at the No. 1 doubles spot. They beat the team of Brittany Bolster and Christina Hammond 8-3, to move to 2-0 on the young season. The team of Carly Landini and Renee Deane defated Alice D'Alauro and Katelynn Mumaw, 8-1 to complete the sweep.
In singles action, the Mount won five of the six matches to seal the victory. Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy won 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-3 respectively. Liz Rossi and Lauren Clark rolled in straight sets at the No. 5 and 6 spots, not dropping a game. Rossi won 6-0, 6-0 at the five spot over Rachel Harrison while Clark beat Christa Carr 6-0, 6-0 at the six spot. Renee Deane displaced Alice D'Alauro in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 to help the Mount seal th victory Tuesday afternoon.
The Mount Women return to action next Wednesday, September 28 when the face St. Joe's.
