Holmdel, N.J. (September 17, 2011)—Dylan Bernard finished fourth overall to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the 17th Annual Monmouth Invitational. The Mount women's team finished in eighth place on the day.
The meet was held on the same course that this year's Northeast Conference Championships will be held and the field featured 10 NEC teams.
Bernard finished the five-mile, hilly course in a time of 26:39.2, good for fourth place in the field. Freshman Tommy Gruschow was the Mount's second-fastest finisher, placing 19th with a mark of 27:31.8. Gigi Gibilisco (26th, 27:39.8), Chris Swisko (31st, 27:48.9) and Kevin Pitts (50th, 28:32.8) rounded out the Mount's top five.
East Stroudsburg won the men's race with 63 points, followed by Sacred Heart (73) and Mount St. Mary's (127).
The Mount women's team was again paced by freshman McKenzie Doyle, who was 37th overall with a time of 20:01.1 for the 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) course. Junior Megan Kinsella was right behind, finishing 39th overall with a time of 20:05.1. The remainder of the Mount's top five finishers included Desi Scott (63rd, 20:45.8), Colleen Smith (69th, 20:53.4) and Kathryn Franke (73rd, 21:01.57).
Quinnipiac took first place in the women's meet while the Mount finished eighth overall, and sixth among the NEC teams at the meet.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the Towson Invitational on September 23rd. The meet will be held at Oregon Ridge Park in Hunt Valley, Md., and will start at 4:00 p.m.
