EMMITSBURG, Md. - George Washington defeated Mount St. Mary's 16-4 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Monday night.

Esther Rufolo (Woodstock, Md./Chapelgate Christian Academy) paced the Mount (1-7) with two goals while Jen Semler (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) and Alexis Salerno (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Mellville) each found the twine once in the loss.

Sarah Phillips paced the Colonials (3-6) with four goals and two assists. Mia Breheny added five tallies while Nicole Lacey posted three goals and two assists, and Megan Seidman chipped in two markers and two assists in the winning effort.

George Washington jumped out to the advantage and never looked back to earn its seventh win in the series in the last eight meetings.

Seidman started a 3-0 run for the Colonials with an unassisted tally at 2:31 before Phillips found the twine at 4:58 and Lacey set up Breheny at 5:33.

Rufolo momentarily halted the George Washington offense with an unassisted marker at 6:08, but the Colonials then rattled off eight of the last nine goals of the half to take an 11-2 advantage at the break.

Phillips and Breheny each posted two goals in a 6-0 run while Lacey and Seidman also found the back of the net in that stretch. Rufolo ended the string of six unassisted with her second goal of the night at 24:28, but Lacey (26:05) and Hannah McLaughlin (29:47) each scored in the final four minutes of the stanza to give George Washington a nine-goal margin at halftime.

Salerno got the scoring started in the second half with an unassisted tally at 30:42, but Lacey found the twine at 32:29 and Breheny scored twice at 33:47 and 40:34 to increase the lead to 14-3.

Semler answered for the Mountaineers off an assist from Shelby Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) for the first freshman's first collegiate point on the helper at 46:08, but Jordy Bathras and Phillips scored the final two tallies of the match to seal the victory.

Brigid McTavish (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) made five saves for Mount St. Mary's while Liz Hoffman turned away two shots and Jess Hicks had two stops for the Colonials.

Mary MacAdam (Palmyra, N.J./Holy Cross) paced the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Aly Jost (Abington, Md./Bel Air) tallied three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Lucy Pompa (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) added two ground balls and two draw controls.

The Mount returns to action when it opens up Northeast Conference play at Bryant on Friday. Game time is 3 p.m.
