Mount Women's Soccer Falls at Monmouth

West Long Branch, N.J. (October 7, 2011)—Monmouth scored four times in the second half to earn a 4-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in Northeast Conference action on Friday night.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half as the game was scoreless at the break.  The Mount's Kelly Baker had an early chance to score, but her shot in the 11th minute was stopped by Monmouth keeper Jocelyn McCoy.  The Hawks (7-4-0, 4-0-0 NEC) held a slight 4-to-3 edge in shots in the opening half.

Monmouth struck for a pair of goals to start the second half to earn the victory.  Tina Antzoulatos beat Mount goalkeeper Alicia Miller with a shot to the far post in the 49th minute to give Monmouth a 1-0 advantage. 

Just under four minutes later, Monmouth was fouled in the box, earning a penalty kick, which was converted by Alexandra Baca for a two-goal lead.

The Hawks sealed the win with a pair of goals late in the half.  Jill Root scored in the 80th minute while Monique Plescia added a score in the 83rd minute.

Miller made five saves for the Mount (3-6-2, 1-2-0 NEC) while McCoy had two saves for Monmouth.  The Hawks outshot the Mountaineers, 15-to-5, in the game and had a 6-to-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mount returns to action at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, October 9, at 1:00 p.m.
