Emmitsburg, Md. (October 1)—Rain shortens day 1 of the Mount Invitational, but not before freshman Adam Salam won both his singles matches to reach the Flight A Singles Championship. He beat his first round opponent Scott Johnson of Gettysburg, 6-4, 3-0 ret. He would go on to defeat Kevin Zingler of Loyola, 6-1, 6-2.
In other singles action, Matthew Blake rolled over Terry Keegan of Gettysburg 6-2, 6-3 in the first round, before the rain stopped his second round match with Keyan Sanai. In Flight B, both Mike Salomon and Mike Zabetakis won their first round matches. Salomon won 6-0, 6-1, while Zabetakis won 6-0, 6-0. Flight C saw Taylor Place beat Mike Pratt of Gettysburg 6-0, 6-1. Patrick McGinley needed three sets to knock off John Cronin of Gettysburg, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6.
Salam and Salomon won their Flight A doubles match over the team of Terry Keegan and Sebastian Rodriguez from Gettysburg, 8-2. Zabetakis and McGinley teamed up to defeat the duo of Liran Braun and Aaron Haas 8-5.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the completion of day 1 starting at 9 a.m. and all of day 2 beginning right after.
