Sophomore Megan Kinsella Finishes Fifth at MSM 5K Duals

Emmitsburg, Md. (September 3, 2010)--Sophomore Megan Kinsella (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) finished in fifth place to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals on campus. Junior Dylan Bernard's (Frederick, Md./Urbana) 10th-place mark led the men's team.

Kinsella finished the 5K course in a time of 19:19.09 to pace the Mountaineers in the season-opening race. The 2009 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year has been the Mount top finisher at the 5K Duals in each of her first two seasons.

Franke had a time of 20:19.80 while Smith had a mark of 20:30.03.

The Mount's fifth finisher on the day was junior Megan Earley (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity), who had a time of 21:30.10 to finish 28th in the field of 57 runners.

UMBC's Sara Parkinson won the women's race with a time of 17:47.47, finishing 18 seconds ahead of Octavia Rinehardt of American.

American, however, won the meet, winning all six matchups in the race that was scored using the dual-meet format. George Mason was second at 5-1, followed by Mount St. Mary's (4-2), Maryland (3-3), UMBC (2-4), Saint Francis (Pa.) (1-5) and George Washington (0-6).

On the men's side, Bernard finished the 5K course with a time of 15:59.13 to finish 10th overall to pace the Mountaineers. Freshman Matthew Pacheco (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) was the Mount's second-fastest finisher, placing 28th with a time of 16:28.97 in his first collegiate race. Chris Swisko (Aberdeen, Md./Calvert Hall) (33rd, 16:40.08) and Sean Caskey (Dundalk, Md./Calvert Hall) (39th, 16:53.57) rounded out the Mount's top four.
