Lewisburg, Pa. (September 19, 2010)-The doubles
tandem of Emily Bolchoz and Renee Deane won the consolation final
in Flight A doubles on Sunday afternoon at the Bucknell
Invitational.
Bolchoz and Deane defeated Emily Urda and Allison Soberg of
Villanova, 8-6, on Sunday. The pair won three straight matches in
the consolations after dropping their first match on Friday.
In singles play, Bolchoz downed Sabrina Fedele of Loyola, 6-1,
6-3, in a Flight A consolation match. Samantha Pinchoff fell in
her consolation match to Soberg, 6-4, 7-6. In Flight C, Deane lost
a consolation match to Tiffany Ash of Loyola, 6-3, 6-4.
On Saturday, freshman Liz
Rossi lost in the semifinals of the Flight C singles to pace
the Mountaineers. Rossi downed Wes Donadio of Villanova, 6-3, 6-2,
in the quarterfinals of Flight C before falling to Maddie Bittner
of Duquesne, 7-5, 6-3, in the semifinals.
In Flight A singles, Bolchoz
lost to Hofstra's Elena Ivanova, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals
while Emma
Haley fell to Daria Tuzhikova in a super tiebreaker, 6-4, 1-6,
10-4, in the Flight B quarterfinals.
In doubles action, Bolchoz and Deane
advanced to the Flight A consolation final by winning a pair of
matches. The duo combined for an 8-5 win over Iepuras and Vidrascu
of Bucknell and an 8-6 win over Hoty and Johnson from Loyola.
In Flight B doubles, Pinchoff
and Kelly
Conroy lost in the semifinals, 9-8, to Polizois and Gattelaro
of Hofstra. The tandem had defeated a pair from Villanova, 8-2, in
the quarterfinals.
In Friday's opening matches, Bolchoz advanced in the Flight A
singles, Haley in Flight B singles and Rossi in Flight C singles.
Bolchoz won her opening match of the tournament over Bucknell's
Demi Iepuras, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5. Haley advanced when Kristin Gobberg
of Villanova was forced to withdraw in the second set while Rossi
posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bucknell's Courtney Casey in Flight
C.
A couple of Mountaineers were edged in their opening singles
matches. Conroy lost to Loyola's Sabrina Fedele, 6-7, 6-1, 12-10
in Flight B while Deane lost 6-2, 5-7, 10-6, to Paige Polizois of
Hofstra in Flight C.
