Emmitsburg, Md. (April 10, 2010)-
The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team improved to 14-4 on the
season with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Morgan State on Saturday
afternoon.
The Mount swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the
match. Emily Bolchoz and Renee Deane won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles over
Alexis McCoy and Nekesa Thomas. The win improves the tandem's
record to 17-5 this season, just one victory of tying the school's
single-season record for wins by a doubles team.
Emily Grugan and Chelsea Johnson posted an 8-3 win at No. 2
doubles over Viktoriya Lukyanenko and Pola Olczak while the No. 3
team of Carly Landini and Emma Haley won 8-0 over Frances Ferdinand
and Blair Fleet.
In singles play, Johnson rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at No.
1 singles over Lukyanenko. The win gives Johnson a 71-34 career
record at the Mount in singles play, moving the senior into a tie
for second place all-time at the Mount in career singles wins.
Bolchoz won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, over McCoy at No. 2
singles while Kelly Conroy won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the
Mountaineers. Landini downed Olczak at No. 4, 7-6, 6-2 while Deane
rallied for a 5-7, 7-6, 10-8 win over Ferdinand at the No. 5 spot.
Grugan cruised past Fleet at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
The Mount returns to action tomorrow at Monmouth.
