The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team was clipped by Morgan
State, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Mount had its five-match
win streak snapped in the loss.
The match started off well for the Mount (11-7) as the team
swept the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Patrick
Plastow and Matthew Blake edged Kevin Charles and Eric Ward, 9-8,
at the No. 1 doubles spot. Andrew Marinucci and Mike Salomon won
8-6 over Dimitry Chekhlatyy and Aaron Benjamin at No. 2 doubles
while Thad Mostowtt and Taylor Place won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles over
Duware Thomas and James Lee.
Morgan State, however, won four of the six singles matches to
take the team victory. Charles won 6-1, 6-0 over Plastow at No. 1
singles while Salomon lost to Chekhlatyy, 7-6 (14-12), 6-3 at No. 2
singles. Mostowtt was edged at No. 3 singles by Ward, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1
while Benjamin rallied past Marinucci, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. The
Mount's singles wins came at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-3 win by Place
over Thomas and a 6-2, 6-3 win by Blake over Lee at the No. 6
position.
The Mount returns to action tomorrow at NEC rival Monmouth.
