Emmitsburg, Md. (April 1,
2010)--The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team posted a
7-0 win over Robert Morris on Thursday at the MSM Tennis Courts.
Senior Chelsea Johnson became the third player in Mount history to
reach 70 career singles wins in the match.
Johnson downed Samantha Alves, 6-4, 6-2,
at No. 1 singles for the Mountaineers (12-4). The win gives
Johnson a 70-33 career record in singles play at the Mount, making
her the third player in school history to reach 70 career singles
wins. Johnson is seven wins of matching Maria Mood's school mark
of 77 wins (77-39, 1994-98). Maisha Challenger (71-27, 1992-96) is
second on the all-time singles wins list.
Emily Bolchoz cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win
at No. 2 singles while Kelly Conroy won 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3
spot. Bolchoz and Conroy are tied for the team lead with 15
singles wins this year. Carly Landini won in straight sets at No.
4 singles with Renee Deane earning a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 win at the No.
5 spot. Emily Grugan won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.
The Mount returns to action on April 7 at
Loyola (Md.)
