Orlando, Fla. (March 4,
2010)--The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team defeated
South Dakota State, 6-1, on Thursday to improve to 10-2 on the
season. The Mount men lost to the Jackrabbits, 5-2.
On the women's side, Emily Bolchoz won
6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles over Megan McDougall to pace the
Mountaineers. Kelly Conroy was a straight-set winner at No. 3
singles with Carly Landini posting a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3,
10-4 win at the No. 4 position. Renee Deane was a winner at No. 5
singles with Emily Grugan posting a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 6 spot
in the lineup.
The Mount swept all three doubles matches
to capture the doubles point. The Mountaineers have won three
straight matches with Bolchoz leading the Mount with 13 singles
wins this season.
The men's team was downed 5-2 by South
Dakota State to fall to 6-4 on the year. Mike Salomon was a 6-3,
6-2 winner at No. 2 singles for the Mountaineers while Matthew
Blake posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot. Salomon is now 10-6
this season in singles play while Blake is 9-2 for the year.
