Emmitsburg, Md. (March 27,
2010)--The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team defeated
George Mason, 4-3, at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts on
Saturday afternoon.
The Mount took two of three doubles
matches to take the doubles point and the early lead in the match.
Andrew Marinucci and Mike Salomon defeated Jorge Osuna and Sam
Coster, 8-6, at the No. 2 doubles position while Thad Mostowtt and
Taylor Place were 8-5 winners over P.T. Mulquin and Imran Nayeem at
the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, the Mount's three
freshman carried the team to the victory. Salomon was a 7-6, 6-4
victor over Greg Donabedian at the No.2 spot in the lineup. Fellow
freshman Taylor Place won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles while freshman
Matthew Blake won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Mostowtt and Marinucci each lost
hard-fought three-set matches. Mostowtt was defeated 6-0, 6-7, 7-5
by Mulquin at No. 3 singles while Marinucci fell 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 to
Coster at No. 4.
The Mount's eight wins this season are
the most by a Mount team since the 2006-07 team also won eight
matches.
The Mount hosts Howard on Tuesday at the
Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts at 3:00 p.m.
