The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team split its first two
matches in Florida. The Mountaineers fell to Bethune-Cookman, 6-1,
before downing Walsh, 9-0.
In the loss to Bethune-Cookman, Emily Bolchoz posted a three-set
win , 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, at No. 2 singles over Shereen
Peterson-Paul, to give the Mount its point. Bolchoz also teamed
with Renee Deane for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Katarina
Szaboova and Stacey Lopez, but Bethune-Cookman won the other two
matches to capture the doubles point. Emily Grugan lost in three
sets to Andrea Paez at No. 6 singles.
The Mount swept all nine matches to capture a 9-0 win over Walsh.
Chelsea Johnson came from behind for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1
singles over Shellie Webster. Carly Landini and Renee Deane also
came from behind to win at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respecively.
Landini earned a 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) 10-6 win over Barbara Lewis at No.
4 singles while Deane posted a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Alison Rossi
at No. 5.
Bolchoz, Kelly Conroy and Grugan all won in straight sets in the
match.
