Emmitsburg, Md. (March 19,
2010)--The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team was downed
by Niagara, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis
Courts. Matthew Blake won in straight sets at No. 6 singles to
pace the Mountaineers.
The Mount was edged out for the doubles
point to open the match. Taylor Place and Thad Mostowtt won 8-4 at
No. 3 doubles over Joe Zelic and Jordan Tedesco-Blair. Niagara
(7-5) won at No. 2 doubles when David Lemieux-Sarrasin and Brandon
Gallagos earned an 8-6 win over Mike Salomon and Andrew Marinucci.
Niagara's No. 1 doubles pair of Jeremy Quiroz and Matthew Kane were
able to rally from a 7-6 deficit to post a 9-7 win over the Mount's
Patrick Plastow and Blake to rally for the doubles point.
In singles action, Blake was a 6-4, 6-4
winner over Tedesco-Blair at the No. 6 spot in the lineup while
Place posted a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 win over Lemiex-Sarrasin at the
No. 5 spot. Mostowtt rallied from a 5-2 second-set deficit to
force a third-set super breaker, but fell 6-1, 6-7 (7-5), 10-8 to
Gallagos at the Nol. 3 spot in the lineup.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday,
March 23, when Bucknell visits the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts
for a 3:00 p.m. match.
