October 30, 2010-Junior Dylan Bernard finished in sixth-place to earn All-Northeast Conference honors for the third-straight season to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's team to a seventh-place finish at the NEC Championships on Saturday. Sophomore Megan Kinsella finished in 13th place to earn All-NEC for the second-straight year as the Mount women finished in seventh place.
The meet was held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
Bernard finished the 8-kilometer course with a time of 25:53.9 to top the Mount's top five runners. Sophomores Chris Swisko (37th, 27:07.4) and Sean Caskey (39th, 27:12.6) were the next two finishers. Jesse Albright (63rd) and Vinnie Cherry (68th) rounded out the top five for the Mountaineers.
Central Connecticut State topped the men's field with 30 points, followed by Saint Francis (Pa.) (56), Sacred Heart (74), Monmouth (105), Wagner (172), Bryant (195), the Mount (213), Quinnipiac (225), Robert Morris (230), St. Francis (N.Y.) (238), Fairleigh Dickinson (287) and Long Island (377).
Kinsella finished the five-kilometer course with a time of 18:27.1 to lead the Mountaineer women. Freshman Desiree Scott was 25th overall with a time of 18:59.2 while sophomore Colleen Smith was 31st with a mark of 19:02.7. Kathryn Franke was the Mount's fourth-best finisher at 19:14.5 (38th) while Stephanie Joson was 40th with a time of 19:20.5 to round out the Mount's top five.
Quinnipiac won the meet for the sixth consecutive season, totaling 34 points. Monmouth captured the runner-up slot with 69 points with Sacred Heart third with 109 points. Robert Morris (115), Central Connecticut State (132), Saint Francis (Pa.) (135), the Mount (147), Bryant (262), Wagner (263), Fairleigh Dickinson (278), St. Francis (N.Y.) (285) and Long Island (333) completed the 12-team field.
The Mount concludes the 2010 season at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in two weeks.
