Women's Tennis Hosts Delaware State On Sunday

Mount Update: Mount St. Mary's returns to the courts for the first time in 10 days when the squad hosts Delaware State on Sunday. In the last match, Towson defeated Mount St. Mary's 7-0 on Oct. 7. The Tigers won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Nisha Shah and Aandria Carr defeated Kelly Conroy and Samantha Pinchoff 8-7 after taking the tiebreaker 9-7 at No. 3 doubles. Emily Bolchoz was the Mount's lone singles player to go three sets, falling 6-2, 2-6 and 10-4 to Carr at the No. 1 single spot.

About the Hornets: Delaware State has had an impressive start to the 2010-11 season, starting 4-0 on the year and only dropping two team points along the way. The Hornets are coming of a 6-1 win against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. Anna Ratnikova is 4-0 this season in singles matches while Delaware State is 12-0 in doubles matches this year.

The All-Time Series: It marks the third-straight season that Mount St. Mary's and Delaware State have battled in the fall. The Mount has beaten the Hornets 5-2 in the previous two matchups.

Last Year's Meeting: The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team continued its torrid start to the 2009-10 season with a 5-2 win over visiting Delaware State on Oct. 20, 2009. Chelsea Johnson earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Marina Sicic at No. 1 singles to clinch the 5-2 victory. Emily Bolchoz was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Polina Razborova at No. 2 singles while Kelly Conroy was a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 winner over Cristina Andrade at No. 3 singles. Kara Caufield a 6-0, 7-5 earned awin over Anna Kovtun at No. 4 singles for the Mountaineers. In doubles play, Bolchoz and Renee Deane downed Sicic and Andrade, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles while Johnson and Caufield posted an 8-6 win over Razborova and Kovtun at No. 2 doubles.

Bolchoz Among Career Leaders: Senior Emily Bolchoz has a career record of 61-27 in singles matches at the Mount, good for the sixth-most singles wins all-time at the Mount. Bolchoz is five singles wins behind Valeria Topol (65-37, 1992-96) and Bronwyn Williams (65-35, 1988-92), who are tied for fourth all-time at MSM. She is also 50-19 all-time in singles dual matches, good for second place behind Chelsea Johnson (64-27, 2006-10).

Record Breakers: The record-breaking doubles tandem of Emily Bolchoz and Renee Deane continues to thrive. The pair is 5-2 so far this season in doubles matches, moving their career record to 24-9 as a team. Last year, the duo broke the school's single-season mark for wins by a doubles team with a 19-7 record. The pair also went 15-6 in dual matches, tying the school's single-season mark in that category.

About Last Year: The Mount's 16 wins last year were the second-best single-season mark in school history. It is also the sixth-straight season the Mount has posted double figures in wins. The Mount earned the No. 5 seed at the NEC Tournament. Emily Bolchoz led the Mountaineers with 19 singles wins in 2009-10 while the doubles pair of Bolchoz and Renee Deane also won 19 times. Deane earned Second Team All-NEC honors at the No. 5 singles spot in the lineup.

Six Years and Counting: The Mount women's tennis team has posted six straight seasons with double-figures in wins. Last year, the Mount went 16-5, marking the second-most wins in a season since the Mount moved to Division I in 1988-89. The Mount has posted a winning record in five of the six seasons while going 10-10 in 2008-09.

Up next: The Mount returns to action on Oct. 23 at home against Saint Francis (Pa.). Match time is 4 p.m. The match was originally scheduled to be played in Loretto, but the competition has been moved to the the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts. In addition, the Rider match has been moved to Oct. 24.
