Mount St. Mary's freshman Matthew Blake (Garnet Valley,
Pa./Salesianum [Del.]) has been named the Northeast Conference
Player and Rookie of the Week. Blake made a successful collegiate
debut at the George Mason Invitational this past weekend.
Blake posted a 2-1 record in both singles and doubles action at
George Mason. He earned wins over George Mason's Greg Donabedian
(7-6, 6-2) and Loyola's C.J. Chomeau (6-2, 6-1) in the No. 6
singles flight. In doubles, he teamed with junior Patrick Plastow
(Dushore, Pa./Pennsylvania Home School) to pick up wins over teams
from George Mason and Loyola.
Blake is the first Mountaineer to earn weekly NEC honors since
Derek Taylor was named NEC Player of the Week on October 24,
2006.
