Women's Tennis Falls to Sacred Heart in NEC Quarterfinals

West Windsor, N.J. (April 17, 2009)—The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team lost to Sacred Heart, 4-0, in the Northeast Conference Quarterfinals held at the Mercer County Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Mount (9-10) failed to reach the NEC semifinals for the first time in six years.

In a rematch of last year's quarterfinal match won by the Mountaineers, Sacred Heart won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles points. The Mount's No. 1 doubles tandem of Emily Bolchoz and Emma Haley posted an 8-5 victory over Nicole Betz and Kate Donnelly.

Sacred Heart, however, earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point. Darcy Demers and Julianne Kasinow took an 8-3 win over Kaitlin Hallahan and Chelsea Johnson at No. 2 doubles while Kristina Chao and Elizabeth Harrington won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles over Emily Grugan and Alissa Thayer.

In singles action, Harrington earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Haley at No. 4 singles, Chao a 6-2, 6-4 win over Grugan at No. 5 singles and Delaney Downing won 6-3, 6-0 over Lauren Clark at No. 6 singles.

The matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles were not finished.

Mount St. Mary's had advanced to the NEC semifinals in each of the past five seasons.

The Mount will play in a consolation match tomorrow.
