Huntington, W. Va. (September 5, 2008)--The Mount
St. Mary's women's soccer team was blanked by Radford, 3-0, at the
Marshall Thundering Herd Nike Invitational on Friday night. With
the loss, the Mount drops to 0-4 on the season.
Kathleen Jarvis scored 19:30 into the game to give Radford a 1-0
advantage. The Highlanders (2-0-1) held that lead until halftime,
outshooting the Mount 10-4 in the opening half.
The Highlanders added to the lead when Ashley Johnson stole the
ball at midfield, dribbled her way downfield, and beat Mount keeper
Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) with a shot to
the lower right corner of the goal. McKenzie Vergara's header into
an empty net with just under 19 minutes left in the game rounded ot
the scoring in the 3-0 Radford victory.
Miller made five saves in 72:46 of action for the Mount while
Amanda Kitzmiller (Mine Hill, N.J./Morris
Catholic) made a pair of saves in 17:14 of playing
time.
Radford outshot the Mount 19-to-7 in the game.
The Mount will face The Citadel on Sunday at the Marshall
Thundering Herd Nike Invitational.
