Emmitsburg, Md. (September 23, 2008)--Towson
defeated Mount St. Mary's, 6-1, in women's tennis action at the
Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon on campus.
Sophomore Emily Bolchoz (Tequesta, Fla./Kolbe
Academy) earned a straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1
singles over Towson's Caitlin White to earn the victory. With the
win, Bolchoz improves to 29-10 in singles action in her career at
the Mount.
At No. 2 singles, junior Chelsea Johnson (Downingtown,
Pa./21st Century Cyber School) lost a tough three-set
match to Lauren Cloonan, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, senior
Kaitlin Hallahan (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) was
defeated by Anastasia Butcovscaia, 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 10-6, in another
hard-fought match.
Aandria Carr earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over the Mount's Emily
Grugan (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) at No. 4 singles,
Emma Haley (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) lost at No. 5
singles to Towson's Evelyn Izaguirre, 6-1, 6-1 while freshman
Lauren Clark (Colts Neck, N.J./Red Bank Catholic)
lost by the same score at No. 6 singles to Cassandra Ng.
The Tigers (1-0) swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles
point. White and Izaguirre earned an 8-6 win over Bolchoz and
Haley at the No. 1 doubles spot while Cloonan and Butcovscaia
downed Johnson and Hallahan, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Carr and Beth
Daub defeated the Mount's Grugan and Alissa Thayer
(Finksburg, Md./Westminster), 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
The Mount (1-1) returns to action on Saturday with a noon match at
home against Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis (Pa.).
