September 11, 2008--Bucknell defeated Mount St.
Mary's, 4-0, in a women's soccer matchup on Thursday night in
Lewisburg, Pa. The Mount's freshman goalkeeper Alicia
Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made nine saves in the
loss.
Bucknell carried play throughout the match, holding a 35-to-2
advantage in shots. Jennifer Dervarics scored the game's first
goal on a Chrisa Matlack cross 24:26 into the contest to pace the
Bison (3-2-1) to an 1-0 lead. The score remained just 1-0 at the
half despite Bucknell's 19-0 shot advantage.
The Bison broke the game open with three second half scores.
Nicole Marotta scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second
half, each goal assisted by Caitlin Holtz, to push the margin to
3-0. Chelsea Brinkman's goal rounded out the scoring in the
game.
The Mount's best chance to score came when Mary McCarron
(Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) took a shot late in the
game that just missed the upper left corner.
The Mount (0-6) returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 14, with a noon
game against Saint Peter's at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.
Game Notes...The Mount has trailed 1-0 at the half
in each of the Mount's six games this season.
