The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team
defeated Sacred Heart, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the Northeast
Conference Tennis Championships. The Mount (19-9) advance to face
top-seeded Quinnipiac in the semifinals on Saturday. It is the
fourth straight year the Mount has advanced to the NEC
semifinals.
The Mount opened the match by taking the
doubles points. The No. 1 tandem of Emma Haley and Emily Bolchoz
bested Nicole Betz and Darcy Demers, 8-4. The Mount's No. 3 tandem
of Ashley Wentzel and Emily Grugan earned an 8-5 win over Elizabeth
Harrington and Mandy Finkelstein.
In singles play, Chelsea Johnson cruised
to a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 singles spot over Demers. Bolchoz
defeated Betz, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 3 position and Wentzel swept
past Finkelstein, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.
The Mount moves on to face top-seeded
Quinnipiac in the semifinals at 11:00 am tomorrow at the West
Windsor Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
