Women's Tennis Edges Bethune Cookman, 4-3

Daytona Beach, Fla. (February 27, 2008)--The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team edged Bethune Cookman, 4-3, on Wednesday in Daytona Beach, Fla., for their second-straight victory. The Mount improves to 9-6 on the year with the win.

The Mount won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. The no. 2 doubles pair of Kaitlin Hallahan and Chelsea Johnson clipped Chanetra Brown and Shanda Gaiter, 8-4, while the No. 3 tandem of Ashley Wentzel and Emily Grugan earned an 8-1 win over Jeneice Ward and Rejina Hopkins.

In singles action, the Mount got wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to earn the victory. Emily Bolchoz was a 6-0, ret. winner over Ward at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. At No. 4 singles, Emma Haley earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Gaiter while Wentzel cruised past Hopkins, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.

The Mount returns to action on Thursday vs. Providence.
