Rossetti And Johnson Each Have Career Day To Power Women's Lacrosse Past UC Davis, 16-10

DAVIS, Calif. – Kathleen Rossetti (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) posted a career-high three goals and five assists to lead Mount St. Mary's past UC Davis 16-10 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

The junior posted a goal and an assist in the first half before tallying two markers and three helpers in the second half. It was the most points in a game since Casey Paris recorded nine points against Central Connecticut State on Apr. 2, 2006.

Ashley Johnson (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) found the twine a career-high five times for the Mount (1-2) while Rebecca Douglass (White Hall, Md./Towson Catholic) posted three goals and an assist and Breana Waraksa (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) registered two tallies and two assists in the winning effort.

Christina Corsa recorded two goals and two assists to lead the Aggies (0-3), and Jacklyn Taylor added a hat trick in the loss.

Making its first trip to California since 2001, the Mountaineers jumped out to the early advantage and never looked back for its first win of the year.

Mount St. Mary's started the game on a 4-0 run. Johnson opened the scoring off Kelly Taylor's (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) first collegiate assist at the 2:28 mark. Douglass scored unassisted at 3:59 before Rossetti set up Lucy Pompa (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) at 5:34. Katelyn Catanese (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) capped the four unanswered goals when she found the twine at 7:22 off a Waraksa helper.

Jacklyn Taylor halted the Mount's surge with a tally off a Corsa assist at 8:27.

Johnson scored off a Waraksa helper at 10:54 before Rachael Martinez found the twine off a Molly Lapolla assist at 22:03. After Rossetti posted her first marker of the afternoon at 24:49 to hand the Mountaineers a 6-2 advantage, Katie McMahon found the back of the net at 28:24. Catanese hooked up with Douglass with 57 seconds left in the half for a 7-3 margin at the intermission.

Johnson started the scoring again for Mount St. Mary's in the second stanza off a Douglass helper at 31:48 to start a 3-0 run. Rossetti connected with Catanese at 34:25 before Rossetti found the twine unassisted at the 36:48 mark.

UC Davis answered when Corsa set up Katie McGovern at 39:15 to cut the margin to 10-4. After Douglass scored unassisted at 42:24, Alyse Lasater and Christina Corsa notched scores at 43:11 and 44:20.

The Mount answered with two goals. Jackie Kearney (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) notched her second career assist on Johnson's third goal of the day at 37:31 before Rossetti scored at 20:59.

The Aggies had its last surge with three unanswered goals to trim the margin to 13-9 whern Gina Hoffman registered a goal and Jacklyn Taylor had two goals.

Juniors Rossetti and Waraksa connected on consecutive goals at 55:29 and 56:14 for a 15-9 lead.

After Corsa found the twine at 57:39, Rossetti capped her eight-point performance by assisting Johnson's fifth tally at 58:42.

Jane Karger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) recorded 10 saves and Melanie Showers (Poolesville, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) had two stops while Hilary Hawkins turned away seven shots in the loss.

Rossetti moved into 15th place on the program's all-time career assists list with 20 helpers.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday at St. Mary's (Calif.). Game time is 6:30 p.m.
