Women's Soccer Edged by Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 3, 2008)--Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams at Waldron Family Stadium on campus on Friday afternoon.

The Knights (4-6-0, 1-0-0 NEC) scored the only goal of the game with just under 10 minutes left in the first half to earn the win. Rashidah Sherman took a ball in the Mount end, dribbled to the middle of the field, and sent a nice through ball to Julie Woolridge, who buried the shot to the right of Mount goalkeeper Alicia Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). Miller made a diving stop of a Jennifer Arcineaux shot with 2:34 left in the half to keep the score at 1-0.

Fairleigh Dickinson used a strong defensive effort in the second half to hold the Mount off the scoreboard the rest of the way. The Mount's best scoring chance came when Emily Menotti (Dover, Pa./Dover) streaked down the right side of the field, but pushed her shot wide left of FDU goalkeeper Rachel Derrico.

Fairleigh Dickinson outshot the Mount 18-to-7 in the game, including 11-to-2 in the second half. Derrico made a pair of saves to earn her second shutout of the year while Miller made three saves in the loss for the Mount (1-10-0, 0-1-0 NEC).

The Mount returns to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when Sacred Heart visits Waldron Family Stadium.
