Hamden, Conn. (October 12, 2008)--Alicia
Miller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made a season-high 17
saves to help Mount St. Mary's earn a 2-2 draw at Quinnipiac on
Sunday afternoon. Freshman Ieva Kibirkstis (Point Claire,
Que./Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) and Meghan
Haspert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) each scored to pace
the Mount offense in the game.
The Mount (2-11-1, 1-2-1 NEC) struck when Kibirkstis drilled a free
kick from 35 yards out to beat the Quinnipiac goalkeeper. The goal
was originally credited to Colleen Regan, but she tapped the ball
after it was already in the goal. The Bobcats (5-3-2, 1-1-2 NEC)
evened the score when Kristina Del Mistro on a shot from the top of
the penalty box on an assist from Susan Donovan.
Mount St. Mary's grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the 54th minute when
Haspert took a pass from Erin Canning (Massapequa,
N.Y./Massapequa) and beat the Quinnipiac goalkeeper for her first
goal of the season. The Mount made that lead stand until the
Bobcats evened the score at 2-2 with just 2:45 left in the
regulation on a header by Amber Sidoti.
Miller made 17 saves in the game, including a pair early in the
first overtime, to preserve the tie for the Mount. Jillian Kelley
made three saves for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac held a 39-to-12
advantage in shots in the game, including a 19-to-5 edge in shots
on goal.
The Mount returns to action on Friday, October 17, when Robert
Morris visits the Mount's Waldron Family Stadium for a 4:00 p.m.
game.
