Emmitsburg, Md. (October 1, 2008)--The Mount St.
Mary's women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over visiting Saint
Joseph's at the MSM Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The
Mount's double tandem of Emily
Grugan (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) and Lauren
Clark (Colts Neck, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) rallied from being
down a match point to earn a win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the
doubles point for the Mount in the win.
Grugan and Clark were down 7-5 at No. 3 doubles and rallied from
being down a match point to earn a 9-8 (7-5) victory to propel the
Mount to the doubles point. Emily
Bolchoz (Tequesta, Fla./Kolbe Academy) and Emma
Haley (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) posted an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles
over the pair of Jennifer Kedzierski and Laura Matz. The Hawks
(1-3) received an 8-3 win from Krysta Contino and Maggie Mullaney
at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, The Mount got wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No.
5 singles to clinch the victory. At No. 2 singles, Bolchoz
defeated Mullaney, 6-3, 6-2, to move to 6-2 this season in singles
action. The win avenged a three-set loss to Mullaney that clinched
a 4-3 win for Saint Joseph's last year over the Mount.
Kaitlin
Hallahan (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over
Tristin Reppert at No. 3 singles while Haley rallied for a 1-6,
6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles for the Mount. Chelsea
Johnson (Downingtown, Pa./21st Century Cyber School) won at No.
1 singles when Jennifer Kedzierski retired after winning the first
set, 6-4.
The Mount (2-1) returns to action on Friday when they host
Northeast Conference rival Robert Morris at 3:00 p.m. at the MSM
Tennis Courts.
