Annapolis, Md. (January 26, 2008)--The
Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team opened the spring season with a
7-0 loss at Navy on Saturday. The Mount falls to 2-3 on the season
with the defeat.
The Midshipmen opened the match by
sweeping the doubles matches to take the doubles point. Andrew
Marinucci and Derek Taylor fell 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot while
Favio Osorio and Patrick Plastow fell at No. 2 doubles by a score
of 8-1 and Rob Dupaya and Thad Mostowtt lost 8-0 at the No. 3
position.
In singles action, Johnny Waters downed
Osorio, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles while Alex James defeated
Taylor, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Jeremy
New downed Marinucci, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Jarrad Smoke
downed Patrick Plastow, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Kpe Wiggins
beat Mostowtt at No. 5 singles in straight sets while Nick Birger
defeated Dupaya in straight sets at the No. 6 position.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Lehigh.
