Thurmont, Md. (September 22, 2007)--The Mount St.
Mary's men's tennis team defeated LaSalle, 6-1, in a non-conference
match at Catoctin High School on Saturday afternoon. The Mount
improves to 2-1 on the season with the victory.
The Mount opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches
to earn the doubles point. Derek Taylor and Andrew Marinucci teamed
for an 8-5 win over George Gennaoui and John Maula at the No. 1
doubles spot. At No. 2 doubles, Favio Osorio and Patrick Plastow
earned an 8-6 win. The Mount's No. 3 tandem of Thad Mostowtt and
Rob Dupaya were edged 9-8 (7-5) by Matt Rivera and Eric Glick.
In singles action, Osorio was a straight-set winner over Gennaoui
at the No. 1 spot while Marinucci had a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-2
win at the No. 2 spot. Plastow edged Glick, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at the
No. 3 spot while Mostowtt downed Maula, 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4 at No.
4 singles. Taylor improved to 3-0 on the season in singles play
with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles while Dupaya fell 6-2, 6-1 at
No. 6 singles.
The Mount returns to action on Wed., Sept. 26, with a home match
against New Jersey Tech. The match will be played at Catoctin High
School.
