Towson,
Md. (October 4, 2007)--Mount St. Mary's lost at Towson,
6-1, in a non-conference women's tennis matchup on Thursday
afternoon. With the loss, the Mount falls to 6-3 on the season.
Towson won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The
Mount's No. 2 doubles tandem of Emily Grugan and Emma Haley was
edged 8-6 by Amanda Scatuorchio and Katie Young.
In singles action, Chelsea Johnson outslugged Caitlin White, 6-4,
3-6, 11-9, at No. 1 singles to earn the Mount's lone point. Emily
Bolchoz lost at No. 2 singles to Evelyn Izaquirre, 7-5, 6-4. It was
just the second singles loss for Bolchoz this season in 13 matches.
Haley fell at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, to Casandra Ng while Grugan
lost at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1, to Scatuorachio. Ashley Wentzel
lost at the No. 5 spot to Young, 6-3, 6-0 while Alissa Thayer fell
at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to Ashley Peretz.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, with a noon match
against Coppin State. The match will be held at Catoctin High
School in Thurmont, Md.
