The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team opened the 2006-07 season
with a 4-3 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) at the MSM Tennis Courts
on campus. The Mount (1-0, 1-0 NEC) won three singles matches and
the doubles point to earn the victory.
In doubles, Jeff Lamberton and Derek Taylor teamed for an 8-2
win over Andrei Sandu and Jeff Seevers at the No. 1 spot. Favio
Osorio and Thad Mostowtt combined for an 8-2 win over Kyle Primeau
and Jordon Kowalski at the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point.
St. Francis (0-2) took the No. 3 doubles match when Ajay Nune and
Tyler Jones downed Matt Ross and Sam Walton, 8-3.
In singles action, the Mount capture matches at No. 2, No. 3 and
No. 4 singles to seal the win. Lamberton won 6-1, 6-1 over Nune at
the No. 2 spot, Taylor 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) over Seevers at No.3 and
Mostowtt 6-0, 6-3 over David Kirby at No. 4 singles.
Sandu edged Osorio, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles while
Kowalski won 6-1, 6-2 over Ross at No. 5 and Jones 6-0, 6-0 over
Walton at No. 6.
The Mount is back in action next weekend at the Georgetown
Classic Tournament.
