MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's opened the 2022 season by going 2-3 at the Wolfpack Classic hosted by NC State.  The Mount had a pair of wins over Lehigh (5-1, 1-0) while falling to Fairfield (11-6) and twice to host NC State (9-0, 11-0).  Avery Neuhart tossed a shutout in the Mount's 1-0 win over Lehigh while Amanda Berkley had a complete-game victory in the 5-1 win over Lehigh in the season opener.

PRESEASON POLL:  Mount St. Mary's was picked to finish fifth in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.  Four-time defending champion Saint Francis U was selected as the preseason favorite, followed LIU, Central Connecticut , Sacred Heart, Mount St. Mary's, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, Bryant and Merrimack. 

THE DeMARINI INVITATIONAL:  The Mount joins Stanford, California and Fresno State at the DeMarini Invitational.  The Mount will face host Stanford and California two times each at the tournament. 

ABOUT STANFORD:  Stanford is 9-2 this season and will play Saint Mary's on Friday before the tournament begins.  The Cardinal won five of six games at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend.  Sydnee Huff leads the team with 16 hits and a .432 average while Kaitlyn Lim is hitting .409 while leading the team with four home runs and 12 RBI.  In the circle, Alana Vawter is 4-2 with a 1.53 ERA in six starts while Regan Krause is 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA in six games and three starts.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA:  California defeated Saint Mary's, 12-1, on Wednesday to move to 8-3 on the season. The Bears are led by Makena Smith who is hitting .516 with four home runs and 14 RBI. Tatum Anzaldo (.500) and Sona Halajian (.484) are also having strong starts to the 2022 season.  Four pitchers have combined for to give the Bears a 2.01 ERA this season. 

THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. STANFORD:  This will be the first-ever meeting between the Mount and Stanford.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. CALIFORNIA:  The Mount is 0-1 all-time against California with the Bears posting a 12-0 win on March 5, 2005, in Hawaii.  That game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when California scored three times.  The Bears added four runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to run away with the win. 

THE MOUNT vs. THE PAC 12 CONFERENCE:  Mount St. Mary's is 0-5 all-time against Pac-12 opponents.  The Mountaineers are 0-1 all-time against Arizona, Arizona State, California, Oregon State and UCLA.  The Mount's last game against a Pac-12 team was a 10-0 loss to UCLA on Feb. 28, 2020.
