Mount Softball Welcomes UAlbany for Four-Game Series

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's has won three in a row to improve to 5-12 on the season.  The Mount is coming off a 10-0 five-inning victory at Towson on Wednesday.  Lia Fest belted a grand slam, Avery Dinges went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two steals, and Ellie Meier tossed a one-hit shutout to pace the Mount in the win.  For the season, Dinges is now hitting .410 (16-for-39) with 17 steals and 13 runs scored.  Kelsie Bandelow (.333) and Tristin Koerner (.314) are also above .300.  Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck leads the pitching staff with a 2-2 record and a 3.55 ERA while Sophia Schmehl is 2-2 with a 4.06 ERA.

ABOUT UALBANY:  The Great Danes are 4-8 this year after falling to Siena, 5-4, at home on Wednesday.  UAlbany is led by Julia Pike (9-for-22, .409) and Katie Parisi (15-for-38, .395, 10 R, 8 2B) on offense.  In the circle, Hayley Wieczerzak is 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA in six starts.  She has struck out 45 batters in 39.1 innings of work.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  UAlbany holds a 9-7 lead in the all-time series with the Mount that began in 2006.  Last year, the Great Danes defated the Mount twice (8-0 and 9-0) at Our Lady of the Meadows Field.  The Mount swept a four-game home series against UAlbany in 2021.

NEWS AND NOTES:
  • The Mount has won three in a row for the first times since sweeping a three-game series against UMass Lowell on Mach 16-17, 2024.
  • Avery Dinges leads the nation in stolen base per game.Dinges has 17 steals in 15 games this year for 1.13 per contest.She is the only player in the nation averaging over one steal per game.Texas Tech's Mihyia Davis is second at 0.96 per game.
  • The Mount's pitching staff has not allowed a run over the past 18 innings.Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck blanked Merrimack over the final six innings in a 5-2 victory. Sophia Schmehl followed with a two-hit shutout over the Warriors, and Ellie Meier tossed a one-hit shutout in the Mount's 10-0 win over Towson in five innings.
  • The Mount swept Merrimack in a doubleheader on March 8 to open MAAC play.The last time the Mount opened 2-0 in the MAAC was after a doubleheader sweep of Fairfield in 2023.
