MOUNT UPDATE:Â The Mount opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Merrimack on Sunday at Shippensburg University.Â
Tristin Koerner went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, home run and four RBI while
Avery Dinges went 2-for-6 with four stolen bases and two runs scored to lead the Mount past the Warriors.Â
Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck and
Sophia Schmehl each picked up complete-game victories for the Mount. Schmehl tossed a two-hit shutout in the second game while Zagrodnicheck held the Warriors scoreless for six innings after allowing two runs in the first inning in the opening game. Dinges leads the Mount with a .389 average and 15 stolen bases this season while Koerner is hitting .333 with a team-high nine RBI. Keslie Bandelow is also having a strong start to the year, hitting .325 with a team-high 11 runs scored. Zagrodnicheck is 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 21.2 innings while Schmehl is 2-2 with a 4.06 ERA and 18 strikeouts in a team-high 29.1 innings of work.
ABOUT TOWSON: The Tigers have won eight in a row after posting 4-0 records in home tournaments in each of the past two weekends. Towson is coming off a 5-4 win over Coppin State on Sunday. Kaci Benton and Addie Ferguson lead the offense for Towson. Benton is hitting .479 while leading the team with 13 doubles, six home runs and 30 runs scored. Ferguson is hitting .380 with five home runs and a team-high 27 RBI. Olivia Trombley is 6-3 with a 2.40 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 55.1 innings of work to lead the pitchers.\
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Towson holds a 41-8-1 lead in the all-time series with the Mount that dates back to 1985. The Tigers have won 15 of the past 17 meetings between the two teams, including a 5-1 win at the Mount on March 19. The Mount's last win over Towson was a 7-2 road victory on April 9, 2024.
