EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 23, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball returns to Knott Arena on Saturday, January 24 at 1:00 p.m., facing off against Merrimack in game one of the Winter Homecoming. The Mountaineers return to Emmitsburg off the back of a 56-43 loss to Quinnipiac away in Hamden, Connecticut.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
Berlynn Carlson led the Mountaineer scoring attack, scoring 15 points while going 5-11 from the field, adding two three-pointers into the mix. Carlson added 10 rebounds on the day while Wesleigh Ferguson also added 10 boards for the Mountaineers, with eight of them coming on transition.
 
The Mountaineers led in both the first and fourth quarters, outscoring the Bobcats 26-23 collectively, but a rough offensive stretch during the second and third saw the Mount outscored 33-17. Altogether, the Mountaineers shot 32% from the field, equaling their opponents percentage while causing nine turnovers on defense.
 
Amber Bullard started the first quarter with a reverse post move under the basket to take an early lead on the first possession. An early Bobcats 5-2 lead was swiftly cut into by the Mount offense as a flurry of field goals from Carlson, Ferguson, Giana Hoddinott, and Nyodie Guerard flew in, with another Bullard score from the paint sending the Mount into halftime up 12-11.
 
The Mountaineers were held scoreless through the first seven minutes of the second quarter as Quinnipiac went on a 13-0 run to start, with the deadlock broken with a layup from Zaria Harleaux. Carlson and Hoddinott ended the quarter with two 3-pointers, cutting the deficit to 28-21 heading into halftime.
 
Quinnipiac put more pressure on the Mount's offense in transition by taking an 11-point lead seven minutes left in the quarter. Harleaux once again showed her potential inside the post, working a move for a score while Carlson ended the quarter with a layup sending the Mount into the intermission down 44-29.
 
Carlson got the offense started in the fourth, scoring a layup and three-pointer during the opening two minutes. From then on, the offenses alternated scoring, with Erin Edmonds hitting a big three with 1:22 left in the game. But with the offensive deficit in the second and third quarters, the Mountaineers were unable to mount a comeback.
 
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
 
Merrimack arrive in Emmitsburg off the back of a 66-59 win away at Saint Peter's on Thursday night, snapping a two-game skid. Lydia Melaschenko dropped a career-high 28 points in the win against the Peacocks while also grabbing five rebounds in her com­plete game showing.
 
During the reverse game in North Andover on December 29, 2025, Merrimack rounded out a close 60-56 win over the Mount, with the injured Gabrille Kennerly scoring 18 against the Warriors, also dishing out three assists. Berlynn Carlson also contributed with 11 points during the loss, grabbing six boards.
