EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 5, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball enters the postseason as the #6 seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), challenging #3 Merrimack in the quarterfinals as the team looks to secure a conference championship.

MOUNT UPDATE
  • Entering tournament week, the Mount is riding a two-game win streak and wins in three of their last four games. Closing out their home slate last week, they picked up victories over Sacred Heart and Rider.
  • At the end of the regular season, the team was fifth in scoring offense in the MAAC with 60.5 points per game, and sixth on defense with 62.4 points allowed. A major deciding factor in the MAAC matchup will be if the Mount's ability to limit offense to the third lowest field goal percentage in the league when they battle Merrimack – who is second for scoring offense and third for field goal percentage.
  • The Mount is second in steals per game at 10.38 per game and 301 for the season. Giana Hoddinott is the team leader with 45 followed by Kayla Lindsey with 40.
  • Alana Powell has been the leading scorer since mid-January, averaging 11.5 points per game.
  • At the MAAC Championships, Mount St. Mary's has won one game every year. They beat Canisius as a #8 seed in 2023, and Marist as a #6 seed in 2024 and a #4 seed in 2025.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
  • Merrimack had a fantastic February, winning seven games out of eight. When MAAC awards were announced earlier this week, four players made the list – Madison Roman (First Team), Lydia Melaschenko (Third Team), Paloma Garcia (All-Defense) and Oralye Kiefer (All-Defensive). Garcia was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Head Coach Kelly Marrone was MAAC Coach of the Year.
  • Among active players, Roman is the leading scorer and rebounder with 13.5 points and 10.8 board per game. Melaschenko is a major three-point threat with 86 makes, and Garcia brings 75 steals and 12 blocks to the table.
  • They were the #6 seed a year ago and pulled off the upset of #3 Siena before falling to #2 Quinnipiac in the semifinals.
ALL-TIME SERIES

Mount St. Mary's leads the all-time series 6-3, but Merrimack earned the sweep this season. They overcome a double-digit deficit to win 60-56 in North Andover before earning a decisive 81-68 win in Emmitsburg this past January.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The advancing team plays #2 Fairfield on Sunday (Mar. 8) at 2:30 p.m. from Boardwalk Hall.
