EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 5, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo travels to Villanova, Pennsylvania for their fourth weekend of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, coming up against former Northeast Conferences foes LIU and Wagner. The Mountaineers are looking to get back into the win column after a home sweep last weekend against Marist and Iona where the team fell to a 3-4 record in the MAAC.
MOUNT UPDATE
In game one against Marist, the Mountaineers got on the bord first after
Anita Radaelli sent a blistering shot past the goalkeeper for an early 1-0 lead.
Anna Kegel scored halfway through the quarter off of a delivery from assist from
Beatrice Vieira just before Marist got on the board. Marist scored four unanswered goals transitioning into the second quarter before Radaelli once again found the net to cut the deficit to a goal. Towards the end of the quarter, both Kegel and
Robyn Currie found the back of the net to go into the halftime intermission down 7-5 to the Red Foxes.
Currie and Radaelli once again repeated their scoring efforts from the first half at the start of the second, but a five-goal out pour from Marist in the third quarter stunted any ground gained by the Mountaineers in the third.
Maria Boix Pascual and
Beatrice Vieira got on board in the fourth quarter, rounding out the end of the Mount scoring efforts.
In game two against Iona, the Mount got off to a hot start after two goals were scored by Vieira within the first three minutes of the match. Iona scored three unanswered goals before Vieira completed her hat trick in the first quarter to tie the game up 3-3. A go-ahead goal was scored by Iona less than a minute later before a Currie goal equalized the match before the first intermission. The Gaels and Mountaineers exchanged goals and leads to the game within the first two minutes of the second, with Pascual scoring two goals in the sequence.
Rebecca Valentine got on the scoreboard at the five-minute mark of the quarter, rounding out a 9-7 deficit for the Mount heading into halftime.
Valentine scored less than a minute into the third quarter to cut the Gael's lead to one, but Iona responded soon after, scoring three more unanswered goals. Pascual and Currie scored back-to-back goals within a minute of each other before two more Iona goals rounded out another five-goal quarter. In the fourth quarter, Kegel slid a shot past the goalkeeper from the five-meter penalty mark and a Valentine shot found the back of the net before the final horn went, ending the match.
