EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 14, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's bowling takes their shot at a national championship this week, heading to Las Vegas for the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships. Before the entire team competes later this week, Leah Varela and Piper Chalmers participate as individuals in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships.
 
FORMAT: For the singles competition, games begins on Tuesday. There are six games of qualifying followed by three rounds of match play that go into Wednesday. Those who make it to the semifinals pick up again on Saturday afternoon.
 
As for the team competition, qualifying begins on Thursday morning, comprised of 24 Baker games. Match play begins in the afternoon with a double elimination format, extending all the way into Friday. The women's final take place on Saturday morning.
 
MOUNT UPDATE: Battling in the Allen Park sectionals for USBC, the Mountaineers finished third to earn one of the coveted four spots from each section. The team made the jump from fifth place at the start of day two to earn the qualification. North Carolina A&T, Pikeville, and Saint Xavier joined the Mount as qualifiers.
 
LAST TIME AT NATIONALS: This is Mount St. Mary's third appearance at USBC Nationals. They are 4-4 all-time in match play with three of those wins coming in 2022 as the Mountaineers toppled Duquesne, Delaware State and McKendree. The year prior, the Mount defeated Stephen F. Austin for their first USBC Nationals victory.
