EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 7, 2025) – Before meeting in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, Mount St. Mary's and Marist play Saturday to coordinate what color jersey each team will wear the following Thursday. The victor will be the #4 seed and wear the home colors while the team that falls will be the #5 seed and be in road uniform.

MOUNT UPDATES & NOTES
  • In their home finale, the Mountaineers fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats 64-60 but almost pulled off a comeback in the process. Down 15-0 in the opening quarter Mount St. Mary's rallied to close the game to a single possession in the final period.
  • Anna LeMaster scored 13 points in the contest, with two shots coming from three-point range. The graduate student needs 11 triples to set the single season record of 85 and surpass Michaela Harrison's mark of 84 set in 2018-19. LeMaster leads the conference in three pointers per game.
  • Jo Raflo finished the game with 12 points, putting her three away from becoming the 31st person in program history to secure 1,000 points. The senior is sixth in the league for scoring and 10th for rebounding.
  • Gabrielle Kennerly also tallied double figures with 11. The redshirt freshman is now one point away from the program's top 100 list. She is also 10th in the MAAC for both three pointers per game and three point percentage.
  • As a team the Mountaineers stand fourth in offense and eighth in defense among MAAC squads. They lead in three-point field goal percentage at .352.

SCOUTING MARIST
  • The Red Foxes have enjoyed a bounce back season in 2024-25, rising from last place a year ago to earn a first round bye this year. They had a four-game win streak come to an end on Thursday with a defeat to Merrimack.
  • Morgan Lee is Marist's presence in the post, leading her team in points per game with 12.7 and rebounds per game at 7.8. Lee shows off versatility with 32 three-pointers as well, second most on the team.
  • Lexie Tarul is their primary long-range shooter but along with her Lee, the Red Foxes boast a trio of triple threats with Danielle Williamsen, Julia Corsentino, and Jackie Piddock. The latter also doubles as the point guard, dishing out an average of 3.2 assists per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES

Going back to 1990, the Mount and Marist have 23 previous meetings. Mount St. Mary's holds a 17-6 series lead, but that was due to in large part to a fantastic stretch in the 1990s when the two squads were Northeast Conference foes. Since joining the MAAC, it is Marist who has the 4-2 series advantage. The two teams also met in the 2024 conference tournament – a 60-47 Mountaineers victory.

LOOKING AHEAD

The quarterfinals of the MAAC Championship begin on Thursday, March 13 at noon from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
