EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 28, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo begins their home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday with matchups against conference foes Iona and Marist in Emmitsburg. The Mountaineers own an overall record of 14-8 with a conference record of 3-2 entering into their third weekend of conference play.
MOUNT UPDATE
In game one of last weekend against Siena, the Mount held a narrow 4-3 lead heading into the intermission with a goal from Valentine and a first quarter hat trick from Kegel. The second half became much of the same, with another 4-3 quarter win extending the Mount's led to 8-6 with assistance from Valentine and
Beatrice Vieira, who both scored two goals each before the break.
Maria Boix Pascual added two goals in the third followed by goals from Kegel and
Anita Radaelli to hold off the Saints in the third by a score of 12-8. Pascual added a goal in the final quarter followed by a brace from Vieira to round off the game for a Mountaineers victory in game one of the day.
In game two against Iona, the Mount kept pace with the Gaels after goals from Valentine and
Robyn Currie, but found themselves down 4-3 heading into the first intermission. Kegel scored the only Mount goal of the second quarter while losing the second by a score of 4-1 heading into the halftime break. Vieira put two past Gael's shot stopper in the third followed by a solo goal from Currie to keep things close headed into the final quarter. When the fourth quarter, both teams came out firing to draw the final period 5-5. Goals from Valentine, Vieira, and Currie came along, but with the score in the second being the deciding factor in the game thus far, the Mount fell to Iona in the final game of the day.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Red Foxes of Marist are 17-8 with a MAAC conference record of 2-1, with one goal victories against LIU and La Salle and a loss against Wagner. Marist has come up against ranked opponents in No. 12 Indiana, No. 19 Pacific, and No. 2 Stanford.
Iona has accumulated a 8-11 record across their 2025 season with a 2-3 record in the MAAC, with conference victories against Siena and the Mount as well as losses to La Salle, LIU, and Wagner.
SENIOR DAY HONORS
Before the second game at 4:30 p.m. against Iona, six seniors and graduate students will be honored by the program to their service to the team over their career. The members of the team being honored are:

The Mountaineers have a program record of 0-4 against Marist and a record of 2-6 record against Iona. In their last meeting against the Red Foxes on April 14, 2024, the Mountaineers were defeated 11-7 and in their last match up against the Gaels last weekend, the Mount found themselves on the wrong side of a 16-12 defeat in Loudonville.
