EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 21, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo travels to Loudonville, New York to face off against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents Siena and Iona on Saturday. After their 2-1 weekend in Lexington, Virginia at the VMI-MAAC Showcase last weekend, the Mountaineers retain a record of 13-7 with a conference record of 2-1.
MOUNT RECORD
In game two of last weekend against Villanova, the first quarter was a even split between the Mountaineers and the Wildcats, with
Anna Kegel and
Leilani Horan getting on the scoresheet early. Four goals were fired past the Nova goalkeepers by the Mount, with
Rebecca Valentine scoring once and Kegel notching a hat trick before half time.
Beatrice Vieira added two goals in the third followed by a goal from Valentine to take 9-8 lead heading into the final quarter. An
Anita Radaelli goal made all the difference in the final quarter as the Mount tied Villanova 1-1 in the final quarter, grinding out a gritty MAAC win.
In game three against La Salle, the Mount took a early 2-1 lead against Explorers, with Kegel and Vieira finding the back of net. The Mount scored three more goals in the second, with Vieira scoring a solo and Valentine scoring a brace to head into the halftime break. But Villanova the third, scoring three on the Mountaineers followed by one more in the fourth to force overtime. From then on, Villanova controlled the game, scoring twice in the two overtime periods to the Mount's one goal, guaranteeing a win for the Wildcats.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Siena has a overall record of 3-15 with a MAAC record of 1-2, with an 18-14 win over the Virginia Military Institute last weekend in Lexington. They have played sizeable competition in No. 25 LIU, No. 19 Wagner, No. 22 California Baptist, and No. 24 Brown.
Iona is 5-11 with a 0-3 record in the MAAC, losing all three of their games in Lexington last weekend. They have come up against sizeable competition in Redlands, Cal State Fullerton, and Arizona State.

The Mountaineers are 4-0 against Siena and 2-5 against Iona, with their last matchups ending in a 10-9 victory and a 12-11 loss respectively.
