EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 6, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo travels to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania for the Bucknell Invitational this weekend. The Mountaineers will face off against Saint Francis, Mercyhurst, and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes Siena and La Salle in a bid to extend their 6-2 record to start the season.
MOUNT UPDATE
Last weekend at the VMI Invite, the Mount went 3-1 with wins against Austin, Gannon, and Saint Francis with their only loss of the Invitational coming against Bucknell in a 10-9 defeat. Their wins came in the form of an 18-8, 15-10, and 16-12 overtime victories against Austin, Gannon, and Saint Francis respectively.
Leilani Horan notched her first MAAC Rookie of the Week award of the season with a 12-goal showing across the weekend, with five goals coming against Gannon in the final match of the invite. Along with her nine assists on the weekend,
Anita Radaelli scored seven goals against the Mountaineers opponents in Lexington. In transition,
Maria Boix Pascual completed four steals during play, with all of them coming against Saint Francis. And
Becca Enquist recorded 42 saves in goal, playing every single quarter of Mount's four games at the Invitational.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Siena has started off the season with a 1-5 record, with their only victory coming in a 113-12 win against Azusa Pacific at the Princeton invitational. Their loses on the season have come against Bucknell, Saint Francis, Salem, and loses to No. 25 LIU and No. 19 Wagner by scorelines of 14-7 and 14-8 respectively.
The Red Flash of Saint Francis has already faced off against the Mountaineers this season, with their last contest on January 31 ending in a 16-12 overtime win for the Mount. Besides that, Saint Francis started their year with a 5-2 record with victories against Siena, La Salle, Austin, Gannon, and Toronto. Their only loss on the season besides their match up with the Mountaineers came against, ending in a 19-12 victory for the Sharks.
La Salle has started their 2025 campaign with a 0-7 start. Their record aside, the Explorers have been the victims of close losses to Bucknell, No. 10 Princeton, No. 11 Indiana, No. 18 Pacific, and No. 25 Marist.
And Mercyhurst started this year with a 1-3 campaign, only having competed so far at the Villanova Invitational. Losses to Iona, Villanova, and the Mount round off their demerits while a 10-6 win against Gannon shows off the Lakers accolades in the pool.
ALL-TIME RECORD
The Mount has an all-time record of 4-0 against Siena, a 4-7 record against Saint Francis, a 2-3 record against La Salle, and an 8-1 record against Mercyhurst.
