EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 16, 2025) – Weeks after resetting her triple jump record, Mount St. Mary's junior
Madelyn Valpy reached a new standard during the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, hosted by Liberty University.
The Canadian hit a mark of 12.10 meters, exceeding her previous record distance of 11.98 meters set at Navy last December. Along with the school record, the distance is first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Setting the record for the first time last year, this is now the fourth instance Valpy has increased the bar.
Several players earned top 5 MAAC accomplishments alongside Valpy.
Julia Kirschnick set two – a 8.81 second time in the 60 hurdles that ranks third, and a pole vault distance of 3.75 meters that is fourth in the conference and tied for first at the meet.
Daniel Reader stands fifth in the league for the 200m, logging a time of 21.81 seconds.
Both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams tallied times that are top three for the MAAC. The men's team are in now second in the conference with a 3:18.22, completed by
Bah Abdoulaye,
Abdulazeez Iyiola,
Gunnar Williams, and Reader. The women's team of
Avery Ferron, Reanne Jones,
Zaria Wilson, and
Nesrine Charouel rank third at 3:59.18.
Further top 10 finishes at the Dixon include
Rebecca Weir coming in second for the High Jump Open at 1.61 meters and
Caleb Nelson earning eighth in the long jump at 6.81 meters.
This past weekend marks the end of the regular season. Next up for the Mountaineers is the MAAC Championships at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York City. Events begin Saturday (Feb. 22) evening.
