EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 12, 2025) – After taking their first defeat in almost a month, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball readies to battle Niagara in a home Thursday contest.

MOUNT UPDATES & NOTES
  • On February 6, Iona's Zoey Ward hit a game-winning layup to give the Gaels a 62-60 victory and snap the Mountaineers' seven-game win streak.
  • At 8-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Mount St. Mary's stands in fourth place in the league. They are one-half game ahead of third place Siena, and a full game ahead of Marist in fifth.
  • Jo Raflo finished the contest with a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds. The scoring effort was the sixth game of 20 points or more, and the Mountaineers are 5-1 in those contests. The rebounding total puts her in 10th position for the MAAC at 5.8 per game.
  • Despite not hitting a three-pointer in the Iona game while battling an illness, Anna LeMaster still stands first for three-pointers per game and three-point percentage in the MAAC. The graduate student is also now tied for 10th in program history for triples in a season, entering a three-way tie with Jessie Kaufman, Brianna Gauthier, and Michaela Harrison.
  • Making her sixth start of the season, Tessa Engelman registered the highest block total for a game since 2021. With five rejections, the sophomore matched Rebecca Lee's effort in March 2021 against Wagner.
SCOUTING NIAGARA
  • Coming off two WNIT appearances in as many years, the Purple Eagles are embarking on a difficult season, registering one win for the campaign and are on a 15-game slide in the wrong direction.
  • Conceding 81 points per game, Niagara ranks 352nd in scoring defense among Division I teams, ahead of only North Carolina Central.
  • Even still the team deploys their hectic Hurricane Havoc defense, implementing full court presses on most trips up the floor. With 12.4 steals per contest, the Purple Eagles stand 11th in the nation for swipes.
  • Safiatu Kolliegbu makes an impact on both sides of the ball. The sophomore leads Niagara in scoring with 13.3 points per game, averages the most steals at 2.4, and is tied with the highest average for assists, also at 2.4.
ALL-TIME SERIES

Mount St. Mary's won an 89-68 decision at Niagara University on January 4, marking the second time in program history the Mountaineers triumphed over the Purple Eagles. The first was in 1989, when the Mount won a 79-73 game during the MSM Tip-Off Tournament in November of that year.

LOOKING AHEAD

Senior Day festivities take place on Saturday (Feb. 15) when Mount St. Mary's takes on Canisius. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. with pregame ceremonies beginning sometime after 1:30.
